Great news! The National Asphalt Pavement Association has just announced that they will "fully endorse" NORA's Oil Recycling Day public relations campaign.

The first “Oil Recycling Day” will be September 30th. This first year will be a soft launch as we continue to build momentum around this exciting new public relations program. The goal of this program is increase awareness by the public, government officials as well as students and educators about the importance of responsible recycling of used oil and related materials.

A copy of their endorsing letter is listed at the bottom of this email. More information about this program will be discussed at the upcoming NORA Conference, October 28-30 in Florida.

On behalf of the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA), I want to congratulate NORA on the launching of a new public relations campaign to educate the public on the issue of recycling oil.

As you know, the asphalt pavement industry is America's number one recycler; reclaiming, reusing and recycling about 100 million tons of pavement material annually. In addition to recycling its own product, our industry is also the nation's largest consumer of recycled oil, consuming about 300 million gallons of used oil each year.

Working together, our two industries are decreasing America's dependence on virgin oil. The asphalt industry makes good use of a product that potentially could end up in landfills and waterways when owners of vehicles have their oil changed. We applaud your industry's efforts to educate the public on the proper way to dispose of and recycle oil, ensuring a cleaner environment. By directing reclaimed oil to asphalt mixing plants, your industry helps give America smoother, longer-lasting highways and roads at lower costs.

NAPA fully endorses Oil Recycling Day on September 30, 2009. We will use our outreach tools to complement your efforts to reach your targeted audiences with education and awareness about the benefits of recycling oil. This campaign will certainly strengthen what is already deemed one of the most solid waste management programs in the country today.
